Wim Hof is a Dutch extreme athlete who has set world records in swimming and immersion in ice water and running a barefoot half marathon in ice and snow.

His full method includes exposure to freezing temperatures and meditation, which he claims can help a variety of health issues. You can learn more about that here: Wim Hof Method

A friend shared Wim Hofs deep breathing techniques with me recently. I generally have challenges doing deep breathing exercises, so I was skeptical, but I am intrigued by how this one works, what it does and just the fact that I can actually do it.

He calls it “controlled hyperventilation”. The goal is to increase oxygen and energy flow throughout your body in order to influence your nervous system.

You can read detailed instructions and watch his how to video here: Wim Hof Breathing Tutorial

It’s super simple and doesn’t take more than a few minutes. I’ve been following the breathing technique with basic tai chi exercises, but it’s also a good transitional tool for meditation.

Check it out – let me know what you think!
