My grandmother didn’t believe in going to the doctor unless it was some severe issue like a heart attack or appendicitis.

I grew up going to the doctor for everything – cold, flu, upset tummy, rash.

It wasn’t until about 4 years into Lyme treatment that I really got exposed to natural/home health care. And even then, my mind thought doctor first, then what can we do naturally. It’s taken years to start thinking natural first. And for the most part – that’s what I do.

Lately I’ve been having some abdominal pain – digestive issues and my liver is a little inflamed.

I’ve had some really bad days – lots of pain and throwing up, I can’t stand or sit upright very long or I get severe head pain (like someone hit me right between the eyeballs with a baseball).

Today I woke up with abdominal pain and nausea. It got worse as the morning went on until I was keeled over in tears.

I didn’t think about what I know to do from home – I didn’t look for my reference manuals. My mind quickly went to “I need a doctor – now”. I think urgent care or ER.

But as I worked through the tools we have and started thinking clearly, I realized my mindset is still so warped by modern medicine that when I panic, I revert to thinking that’s the first line.

Don’t get me wrong – there is a place for medicine, for the ER in particular. And if my tools didn’t work, I would have gone in (mainly to get an ultrasound or CT to make sure nothing major was wrong).

But there is so much we can do ourselves if we just take the time to apply what we’ve learned.

And now I need to retrain my brain to not go into get me a doctor mode when I don’t come up with a health fix quickly.

Keep learning friends.
