I had 4 treatments Monday & Tuesday.
By Wednesday, I was having major detox symptoms: headache, neck pain & stiffness, back pain, all over joint & muscle pain, weakness, nausea & abdominal discomfort.
That tells me the treatments are effective. That’s what it’s supposed to do. It’s causing my body’s immune system to kill pathogens – the strong symptoms simply mean that it’s more toxins than my system can manage.
That’s the hard part about this sickness – the die-off is often too much for the detox pathways. Many people with Lyme+ have leaky gut, which allows the toxins to recirculate back into the bloodstream, causing more toxicity and worsening symptoms. We also have inflamed and slow livers so toxins get stuck.
All of that adds to a cascade of issues – inflammation throughout the body, cellular & nervous system dysfunction, hormone & neurotransmitter dysregultion, the inability to absorb the right nutrients, skin issues, etc etc etc.
I planned for this. And I think that’s really important when making a decision about treatment. Can you handle the die off? Is your body ready enough to process as much toxin release as possible? Have you done the work of preparing your downstream detox pathways to handle the extra load?
Think about it this way:
You have toxins galore running through your body – ammonia, heavy metals, mold, chemicals; and now you’re gonna add to that load by killing not just one specific pathogen at a time, but all of them (multiple bacteria & viruses, parasites, malaria like organisms).
This is a big deal! I feel pretty confident that my body is more ready for this than ever, but it’s still kickin my butt!
There are things you can do to prepare your system for die-off. I’ve put together a list of what I have been doing over the last 2 years at the link below.

Diet is crucial to preparing your cells. Your cells need to able to get toxins out and get nutrients in. If the cell walls are inflamed and not permeable, that won’t happen. Its important to eliminate processed foods, anything that contains toxins and sugars, but also adding healthy fats and the right nourishing foods.
You also need to support the detox pathways – gut, liver & kidneys – so the toxins get all the way out of your body.
That’s all I’ve got to say for now. Feel encouraged to reach out if you have questions or just want to connect! You can leave a comment here or come find me on social media @philippijoy.
