Or the Lyme.
I love that so many people have become increasingly aware of Lyme disease and that it’s being plastered all over social media. I am sent recommendations and informative articles about Lyme treatment potentials every day. I think it’s amazing that so much information is available and that so many people are thinking about me.
Now that we are thinking about Lyme, I want to ask you take your understanding a step further.
There’s a video that my husband and I refer to frequently called “Not About the Nail”. It’s a clever take on how men and women handle stressors differently. I think about it every time someone sends me information about a cure for Lyme.

While we refer to my sickness as Lyme disease, it’s not about the Lyme. Yes, I have Lyme disease. But I also have babesiosis, bartonella, multiple viruses, several heavy metals and mold toxicities, POTS, hormone and neurotransmitter imbalances, etc etc etc.
Lyme by itself isn’t the problem. Many people have Lyme and it affects them on such a smaller scale or not at all. The other conditions and the specific make up of our individual bodies make Lyme and other tick-borne disease difficult to treat, requiring taylor made protocols for each person.
There is not a one size fits all cure because it is not a one size fits all disease. If caught early, and treated early, and there aren’t a multitude of co-infections and conditions compounding the disease, doctors can use standard antibiotics to treat Lyme. East coast doctors seem to understand this better than west coast doctors so we haven’t gotten early treatment (however I feel that’s changing).
So when you hear that someone has been “cured” of Lyme disease, please remember that their individual composition and varying disease factors, including which strain of the bacteria they have (there are hundreds), how long they’ve been sick, and other conditions and illnesses that may impact healing, are different from person to person.
As for me – I am continuing to work with the amazing doctors in Kansas who are focused on fixing cell damage and managing the core components that have made me so sick. The goal isn’t “a cure” – the goal is to get the body fighting better and feeling better.
If you know someone battling Lyme and other tick born disease, please don’t be offended if we get a little defensive when you make a recommendation about a treatment protocol or potential cure. We want to get better and chances are, we have already tried it. We may not know what works yet, but we sure know better than anyone what doesn’t. LLMDs aside, no one does more research, reads more books and articles, or looks for treatment opportunities for tick-born disease more than someone who has it.
