Contrary to what local medical professionals believe, Lyme disease is highly active in Tehama County and California.

I was bitten by two ticks during June of 2006. I know to watch for a bullseye rash – which never came. Whew!

A few days later, tho, I developed a horrible respiratory infection, followed over the next few months by joint pain, back disc issues, neck pain, migraines and fatigue.

That was just the start. And because the symptoms changed frequently, doctors never looked at them together.

At one point I had counted 135 symptoms.

  • Neuropathy (numbness & tingling)
  • Tachycardia (POTS
  • Skin rashes
  • Digestive issues
  • Insomnia
  • Face pain
  • TMJ
  • Word finding & short term memory issues

I stopped working in 2013 when I became mostly bed ridden. I expected to go back some day – but we now know that isn’t realistic.

More than 50 doctors over the years, 6 months going to Stanford every 2 weeks, 5 years of antibiotic therapy (4 years IV), 9 weeks at a speciality center in Kansas – and while I’ve improved and found some balance, I am still very very sick.

All this to say – no matter where you live, even if you don’t remember a tick bite, don’t let random, unexplained symptoms linger without answers.

Lyme is curable. But to catch it early, you usually needs a specialist to get properly diagnosed and treated in California.
