Cervical Instability is when the ligaments in the neck are too loose. It literally feels like my neck isn’t strong enough to hold up my head.

I went to Florida last summer to get prolotherapy – which is essentially injecting sugar water to force the body to flood the neck with healing cells, helping to strengthen the ligaments.

However, the muscles in my neck have become tight to compensate for the weak ligaments. So now we are injecting procaine up and down both sides of the cervical spine to help loosen the muscles and relieve pain.

Let me just say my husband is amazing. He was trained by one of the doctors to do the procaine injections and does them 4 days a week for me.

They hurt like heck – I wince and I cry – and he just handles it all.

Being sick and in pain is so hard. But being my caretaker is no picnic either. I don’t know where I’d be without my family – but I can guarantee I wouldn’t be injecting anything into my neck if I didn’t have a husband who was willing to roll up his sleeves and do the awful job of poking needles under my skin.

And while I am not a fan of the process, it does seem to be providing some relief, so we will continue it for a while and see if it can work a little magic.
