Watching the West Wing where the President has relapsing-remitting MS and has been having a flare up. Relapsing-remitting means symptoms get worse and then better.
Doctors explain that fatigue can be extremely debilitating – sitting up can take too much energy so the more he can lay down, the better he can function when he is up.
The temperature in the room needs to be kept below 70° at all times because warmer temps will increase symptoms.
He can’t stand up at times because he loses his balance. At other times he can’t stand because his legs are numb.
I love that they’re showing the real issues. I love that MS is so well understood that it can be explained in a television show.
At the same time, I’m angry that Lyme and tick disease aren’t as well understood. I experience exactly the same issues as are being shown about MS. All of those and more.
I’ve been in that wheel chair. I’ve used that cane. And I lay down most days because if I don’t, I crash.
The CDC and IDSA, the insurance companies and mainstream medicine in general have done and continue to do a huge disservice to people like me. People who want to get better, who need help.
Yeah – I’m a little angry today.
As always: it’s ok to have a pity party just don’t unpack and live there – because someone has to pull up her big girl panties and teach, fight, help.
PS: Lyme is often misdiagnosed in early years, sometimes as MS.
