The Master Cleanse (MC) is a liquid diet consisting strictly of a formulated lemonade for 10-40 days.

It sounds brutal, right?

Believe it or not, the lemonade is filled with all the vitamins and minerals your body needs. You don’t starve. You don’t wither away.

On the contrary, your body heals and detoxifies (per Stanley Boroughs)

  • dissolve and eliminate toxins and congestion that have formed in any part of the body.
  • cleanse the kidneys and the digestive system
  • purify the glands and cells throughout the entire body
  • eliminate all unusable waste and hardened material in the joints and muscle
  • relieve pressure and irritation in the nerves, arteries, and blood vessels
  • build a healthy blood stream
  • keep youth and elasticity regardless of our years

Lemons contain tons of vitamin C (which is super great coming into virus season), plus thiamin, vitamin B6, folate, potassium, iron, pantothenic acid, calcium, magnesium and copper. They’re also high in fiber and antioxidants.

Maple syrup is a great source of manganese, thiamin, zinc and riboflavin, as well as magnesium, potassium calcium, and copper. It also contains polyphenols/antioxidants and photochemicals.

One of the carbohydrates found in maple syrup is inulin, which promotes healthy probiotics and supports the gldigestove system.

Grade A maple syrup is lighter in color and sweeter; Grade B (now called Grade A Dark Robust) is darker and contains higher amounts of nutrients and antioxidants.

The Lemonade:

  • 2 Tbsp fresh squeezed lemon juice (do not use anything but fresh – this is the only way to get the right nutrients)
  • 2 Tbsp maple syrup
  • 8 ounces water (not hot)
  • 1/10th tsp cayenne (reduces inflammation and helps clean the gut lining)

Tips:

Drink within 10 minutes!

You can mix equal parts lemon and maple syrup to keep in a container then measure out 2 Tbsp mixture and add to 8 ounces water and 1/10th tsp cayenne. This can be helpful if you’re at work or traveling.

Come off any vitamins, supplements, etc that you can.

The Protocol:

  • 3 days before: eliminate all sugar, meat, coffee and processed foods
  • Start the day with a laxative or Salt Water Flush (1 quart warm water, 2 tsp salt – click link for important details)
  • Drink lemonade throughout the day – if you feel hungry, drink a glass (8-12 glasses daily)
  • You can have herbal tea and water, but not more glasses than tou drink of lemonade
  • End the day with a laxative
  • After you stop: add vegetables back in one day at a time. Start by adding several glasses of orange juice throughout the day, then add vegetable soup (not canned), then raw vegetables like salad.

Q & A

Did you get hungry? Not as much as you’d think! When I felt a little hunger, I would drink a lemonade and that curbed it.

Did you few weak and tired? Not at all! To be honest, I had more energy, less fatigue, and less pain than before I started.

Were there any downsides? Everyone is different. Some people feel great the entire time. For me, the challenges were primarily around clearmind the digestive tract:

  • TMI HERE: You need to have at least 2-3 bowel movements every day. Even with multiple rounds of laxatives and salt water flushes, I didn’t have 3 total. That means everything that should be coming out was building up and recirculating.
  • Your body needs fiber to keep things moving. Laxatives and the salt water flush are meant to take over.
  • I added minor amounts of fiber foods on day 9. My hope is to do it again down the road when my digestive system can better manage the process.

Do you take vitamins and supplements?

  • It is recommended to come off all supplements. You will be getting all of the vitamins and minerals your body needs through the lemons and syrup.
  • You should come up with a game plan for specific medications. Refer to the links referenced above for recommendations for diabetes and other medical conditions.
  • My doctor recommended I not stop my supplements. I took them on day 3, this was a huge mistake! I was in pain and had severe nausea – so I did not take them again after that.

Would you do it again?

  • ABSOLUTELY! In fact I am already thinking about when I might do it next.
  • I am also going to be continuing to drink the lemonade – maybe not all day, but several times a day.
  • After learning about the benefits of the concoction, I simply believe it can only help to add it to my daily regimen.
