As if my diet wasn’t difficult enough to explain, I’ve added more limitations and changes – but they are making a huge difference.
I am working through a program learning to do 2 things:
1. Heal / fix the cells in my body (my cells are super inflamed and do not function as they should)
2. Detox better (my body does not detox well – so toxins build up in me more than they should)
What I’ve found with this diet is that I have more energy, less pain, and I’m able to lose/maintain weight (weight loss resistance is a major problem for a lot of people).
So I am committed to eat this way from here on out and truth be told – I enjoy food more now.
Below is a basic outline of the diet – I was already doing much of it, so it wasn’t a huge leap, but the parts I wasn’t doing were apparently pretty critical to success.
Main Diet
- No sugars or sugar alcohols
- Certain fruits in moderation (green apples, berries, cherries)
- No processed grains (white rice, pasta, white bread)
- Healthy grains in moderation – ancient, sprouted, stone ground, whole
- Healthy carbs – white sweet potatoes (I limit carbs most days because I just feel better)
- Sprouted or soaked nuts
- All animal products derived from grass-fed animals
- No processed foods
- No man-made ingredients
- FATS – THIS IS IMPORTANT
- NO BAD FATS
- Add plenty of good fats to help with energy and metabolism – cells can burn either sugars (which create toxins) or fats (which create cleaner energy) – removing sugars and adding more healthy fats reduces inflammation in the cell walls and creates better energy. If you don’t get enough fats to burn, your body will start to break down protein (muscle).
Add vegetarian and multiple food allergies into the mix I’m just about impossible to feed. 😆
Other Info
Organic: As much as possible – organic fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds & grains have higher nutrient content and less toxic chemicals. Organic farmers are not highly overseen so knowing the source is important.
Coffee: most coffee has some level of mold, I only buy certified mold-free coffee.
Oils: Most mass-produced oils are toxic and have little to no nutritional value. Oils have varying degrees of heat tolerance (example: olive oil has a max heat of 350°). Oils deserve a post of their own – coming soon!
Intermittent Fasting: I don’t eat breakfast most days
Diet Variation: One day a week I eat breakfast, one day a week I fast for 24 hours (basically just skip dinner). I will be very strict about carbs for a few weeks – then I will eat more healthy carbs for a while. Changing it up forces the body to adapt, it gets it out of autopilot.
